Violinist JinHee Kate Kim is a celebrated artist, renowned for her innovative approach and "sensitive voicing," as praised by the German newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung. A distinguished laureate of multiple prestigious international and national competitions, her diverse and dynamic career spans solo, chamber, duo, and orchestral performances, as well as appearances at renowned music festivals and masterclasses with world-class musicians, including Laurence Lesser and Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio, among others.
Notable Honors and Artistic Achievements
JinHee’s artistry has earned her numerous accolades, including First Prize and Silver Medal at the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition in New York, the Brahms Award and Most Distinguished Musicians Award at the IBLA International Competition in Italy, and the distinguished Tourjée Alumni Award from the New England Conservatory in Boston, where her name is inscribed on the Tourjée Alumni Award plaque. As an avid chamber musician, she has performed across the United States, Canada, Korea, and Europe. JinHee is a founding member of Trio Eca, which has been featured on Arte TV’s “Arte Showcase” and FEBC Radio’s “Music and People” in Seoul. Her other ensembles have also appeared on CBS TV and Earl TV in Toronto.
From Injury to Innovation
In 1992, a hand injury led JinHee to explore the innovative fusion of music and multimedia, resulting in the creation of El Bara Art (Hebrew for "God creates"). This pioneering series blends violin music with narration, acting, sound design, and visual art. Key works such as The Creation of the World, The Wanderer, and Return reflect her unique artistic vision and have been performed at cultural venues and churches in the United States and Korea.
Early Training and Academic Excellence
Born in Korea, Dr. JinHee began her violin studies at the age of six. She was trained at the Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School before continuing her education at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts. Awarded scholarships to the New England Conservatory of Music, she earned her Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Graduate Diploma. In 2010, she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, solidifying Dr. Kim's reputation as a distinguished performer and educator.
